Pure Tungsten Electrode

Pure tungsten electrode, which can be shorted to WP, is made of pure tungsten with more than 99.95% tungsten. Pure tungsten electrode has the highest consumption rate of all electrodes and is typically less expensive than “alloyed” counterparts. The color code of pure tungsten electrode is green.

An electrode is a conductor through which electric current is passed. Found in variable forms, electrodes may be wires, plates, or rods. An electrode passes current between a metallic part and a nonmetallic part of an electrical circuit. Most frequently, conductors that are metallic carry electrical current. In other circuits, however, current is passed through a nonmetallic conductor. Pure tungsten electrode is used the material of tungsten to make electrode.

Pure tungsten electrode can form a clean, balled tip when heated and provides great arc stability for AC welding with balanced wave. Pure tungsten also provides good arc stability for AC sine wave welding, especially on aluminum and magnesium, but is not typically used for DC welding (it does not provide as strong of arc starts as thoriated or ceriated electrodes).

The pure tungsten electrode is the one without any addition of oxide. The power of electrode transgression is as high as 4.5ev. Requiring a high voltage for arc derivation, it has a low current capacity and is easily burnt. It is suitable for application under the condition of AC and in the situation of low welding requirement
